China has announced that starting tomorrow, it will impose additional tariffs on imports from the United States, raising the tariff rate to 84%. This decision follows the latest U.S. measure, which introduced an extra 50% tariff on Chinese goods. With this, the total tariff burden applied by the U.S. on Chinese exports has reached 104%, including previous tariffs of 34% and 20%.

China has notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) that the actions taken by the U.S. pose a serious threat to global trade stability. “The situation is escalating dangerously. As one of the affected member states, China expresses deep concern and strong opposition to this irresponsible move,” stated Chinese authorities in an official release.

Meanwhile, the European Union has also responded to the U.S. measures. The European Commission has voted to introduce 25% tariffs on American goods worth approximately €22 billion. The EU’s list includes agricultural products such as soybeans, almonds, meat, tobacco, blueberries, and orange juice, as well as industrial materials like steel, aluminum, and textiles.

According to announcements, some of the EU tariffs will take effect on April 15, others by mid-May, while tariffs on American almonds are scheduled to begin on December 1.
